Mount Sinai Health System has been ranked No. 1 on the new Nature AI Index 2024 of leading healthcare institutions. Here’s full press release from Mount Sinai Communications:
Mount Sinai Health System is No. 1 on the new Nature AI Index 2024 list of “Leading 10 Healthcare Institutions,” and among the world’s “Leading 200 Institutions” for AI across all fields, published by the prestigious journal Nature.
The list ranks institutions by the number of affiliated researchers who contributed articles to top science and health journals on artificial intelligence (AI) from 2019 to 2023. The index is an extension of the larger Nature Index, a comprehensive database of author affiliations and institutional relationships that monitors contributions to research articles published in prestigious natural science and health science journals, selected based on reputation by an independent panel of researchers.
We believe these results recognize the institutional focus we have placed on AI for several years now. These efforts include the creation of the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health—the first such department at an academic medical center—to make AI access easier across the Health System; the construction of the Hamilton and Amabel James Center for Artificial Intelligence and Human Health, which is in the process of opening on East 101st Street and co-locates our various AI cores in one building; and the increased use of AI to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses across the Health System. In part because of these efforts, The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Morningside were recently named to Newsweek’s “World’s Best Smart Hospitals” list.
The issue of Nature also includes an article sponsored by Mount Sinai, titled “How to harness AI across healthcare,” which highlights the Health System’s advancements in AI and machine learning.
We would like to congratulate everyone involved in this work. While lists and rankings like these are at best an imperfect measure of excellence, we are glad to see our efforts recognized in such a prestigious context.
